Description
The Signature 10 is a high-end turntable from Pro-Ject that combines two usually opposing approaches: mass loading and magnetic floating. It is designed for listeners seeking precise sound reproduction and advanced mechanical isolation, without compromise on build quality.
The 10 kg aluminium platter, diamond-cut from a single piece, rests on an inverted ceramic ball bearing with magnetic levitation, which greatly reduces friction and resonance. Sorbothane damping complements this arrangement, while magnetic fields housed in the feet mechanically decouple the entire turntable from external vibrations. Drive is via silicone belt, with two synchronous motors acting on a double belt onto a flywheel, which is in turn connected to the platter by a third belt; a built-in speed regulator maintains speed variation to ±0.09%, for wow and flutter measured at ±0.01% max. and a signal-to-noise ratio of -73 dB. The tonearm, a 10-inch aluminium uni-pivot with SME-type shell, allows continuous VTA and mounting distance adjustments, directly during playback.

What to check before buying used
On this model, the magnetic suspension of the platter and feet deserves careful checking: a weakened or displaced magnet alters the behaviour of the inverted bearing and can generate abnormal background noise. Also check the condition of the silicone belt, which is prone to ageing, as well as the proper functioning of the speed regulator. The 10-inch SME-type uni-pivot tonearm should remain perfectly stable in its VTA and mounting distance settings, with no play and no difficulty holding the chosen position.
