Description
The Pro-Ject Uni Box S3 is an all-in-one amplifier combining amplification, digital-to-analogue conversion and network streaming in a compact chassis. It allows speakers to be connected directly, along with a turntable, without going through separate components.
Amplification is provided by a class D stage delivering 2 x 40 W into 8 ohms, a power output suited to speakers of low or medium sensitivity. Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by an ESS Sabre DAC, capable of processing streams up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. Streaming is managed by the WiiM OS system, which gives direct access from the unit to Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify Connect and Deezer services.
In terms of connectivity, the Uni Box S3 offers an MM phono input allowing a turntable to be connected without an external preamplifier, as well as a 6.35 mm headphone output. The unit is controlled via the WiiM Home app or via the touch controls on the chassis.
With dimensions of 206 x 55 x 153 mm and a weight of 1.3 kg, this model is aimed at those seeking a centralised, compact solution, suited to a smaller living space or a secondary system, without multiplying separate components.

What to check before buying used
The built-in phono stage deserves testing with an actual vinyl source, as a fault on this MM input is less obvious to spot than an issue on the standard outputs. Also check proper WiFi pairing and streaming stability via the WiiM Home app, as well as the operation of the chassis touch controls, which can sometimes show wear. Checking the headphone output and confirming the absence of hum at power-on completes the inspection.
