Description
The Concept 50 is a 2-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker, designed to stand directly on the floor. It is the floorstanding model in Q Acoustics' Concept range, intended for larger rooms where a bookshelf speaker would reach its limits in terms of output level and bass extension.
Its structure relies on double-thickness panels combined with GelCore technology, complemented by internal P2P (Point to Point) bracing that stiffens the cabinet to limit vibrations at low frequencies. Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers (HPE) are added to absorb pressure variations and internal cabinet resonances. The system is equipped with two 125 mm midrange/woofer drivers and a 25 mm tweeter, with a crossover frequency set at 2.1 kHz. Frequency response extends from 42 Hz to 30 kHz, with distortion below 0.2% between 120 Hz and 20 kHz. With a sensitivity of 90.5 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 Ω (minimum 3.6 Ω), it accepts a recommended amplifier power between 25 and 150 W.
This model is intended for domestic use in spacious rooms, for a stereo hi-fi system seeking a precise sound image and a wide soundstage without resorting to overpowered electronics.

What to check before buying used
With this type of floorstanding speaker, attention should first be given to the condition of the drivers: the surrounds of the 125 mm midrange/woofers and the 25 mm tweeter diaphragm, checked for cracks, tears or sagging. Also check the integrity of the cabinet and its finish, as well as the fixing of the bass-reflex ports, which are prone to damage from knocks during transport. A listening test across the full frequency range helps identify any distortion or unwanted noise linked to the age of the components.
