QED Genesis Silver Spiral Bi-Wire
QED speaker cable in bi-wire configuration, with 99.999% HPCFC copper conductors and concentric spiral geometry.
Description
The QED Genesis Silver Spiral Bi-Wire is a cable connecting amplifier to loudspeakers, designed for bi-wire connection. This configuration allows the bass and treble sections to be separated on speakers fitted with dual terminals, using two distinct pairs of conductors originating from the same cable.
Its construction is based on nine insulated conductors in HPCFC (High Purity Copper Fine Crystal) copper with 99.999% purity, each made up of 19 strands of 0.2 mm. These conductors are arranged in a concentric spiral geometry around a central core of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), an architecture intended to limit skin effects and electromagnetic interaction between strands.
The total cross-section reaches 4 x 5.5 mm², for an outer diameter of 19.6 mm, corresponding to a cable of substantial gauge, suited to installations where the connection length may be significant. The measured electrical values are a loop resistance of 6 mOhm/m, a capacitance of 76 pF/m, an inductance of 0.46 µH/m and a dissipation factor of 0.0070: parameters that reflect low series resistance and controlled dielectric losses along the length of the cable.
This cable is intended for hi-fi systems where both the amplifier and speakers have the necessary connections for bi-wiring, typically living room or dedicated listening installations where the aim is to make the most of speakers with separate terminals. Its substantial diameter means adequate cable routing space should be allowed for, particularly at the connection points.

What to check before buying used
Given this cable's 19.6 mm diameter, check the flexibility of the cable at bend points: a hardened or cracked sheath near the plugs indicates ageing that can weaken the insulation of the nine conductors. Inspect the connectors and the crimping area at each end, which are prone to oxidation and micro-breaks after repeated unplugging. Also check that the four bi-wire strands are clearly identified and continuous along the full length, as faded markings make bass/treble connection uncertain.
