What to check before buying used
Examine the banana plugs or spade connectors at the ends: on a used cable, oxidation of the contacts or a loosened crimp degrades the connection with the amplifier and speakers well before the conductor itself becomes an issue. Also check that the polarity marker (stripe or marking on one of the two strands) remains legible, without which correct phase alignment between the two channels becomes uncertain. A tight bend or localised crushing of the LDPE sheath may also have deformed the insulation without this being visible at first glance.
