Description
The QED Signature Audio 40 is an RCA interconnect cable designed to connect an audio source (CD player, turntable with phono preamplifier, DAC) to an amplifier or hi-fi mixing desk. It belongs to the Signature Audio range from British manufacturer QED, which specialises in cables designed to limit losses and disturbances along the analogue signal path.
Its construction is based on an asymmetric twisted-pair geometry and a Teflon dielectric, an insulating material recognised for its low dielectric absorption. The SPOFC shielding, claimed to block 100% of electromagnetic interference, protects the signal from external interference, a sensitive point on low-level connections such as those of a turntable or preamplifier. The connectors, in rhodium-plated OFC copper, are mounted on shielded plugs made from a zinc/magnesium alloy incorporating ferrite, and held in place by the QED Analoc locking system to ensure a stable contact over time. The cable has also undergone cryogenic treatment, a process intended to homogenise the structure of the conductive metal.

What to check before buying used
Check the locking of the QED Analoc system at each plug: a locking mechanism worn by repeated connection cycles results in unstable contact or micro-dropouts in the signal. Also inspect the zinc/magnesium alloy of the plugs, which is prone to surface oxidation if stored in damp conditions, as well as the integrity of the SPOFC shielding and the ferrite sleeves, where a split or crushed sleeve cancels out the interference-suppression effect. An ohmmeter test on the loop resistance allows you to check for any internal break in the conductor.
