Description
The Platina Integra is a stereo integrated amplifier from Quad, designed with dual-mono architecture and operating in class AB. It combines a dedicated power stage with a built-in digital-to-analogue converter, allowing it to receive digital sources directly without going through an external DAC, while driving speakers in direct output.
The power stage delivers 2 x 200 W into 8 ohms and 2 x 300 W into 4 ohms, with a rated power of 2 x 310 W into 4 ohms for total harmonic distortion below 1 %. The total harmonic distortion at 1 kHz and 50 mW remains below 0.01 %, a level reflecting clean reproduction at typical listening volumes. The 32-bit ES9038Pro converter accepts streams up to 192 kHz via optical or coaxial input, and up to 768 kHz in PCM or DSD512 via the USB PC input, covering nearly all current high-resolution digital formats. The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 110 dB on line and XLR inputs, and 112 dB in weighted value, ensuring a quiet noise floor.
The frequency response spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a tolerance of ±0.3 dB, and the output impedance of 2.35 ohms combined with a maximum output current of 20 A allows a wide range of load impedances to be driven, from 20 to 600 ohms depending on the source. What to check before buying used
On this integrated amplifier, the motorised potentiometer and input switching relays deserve a listening check: crackling or brief cut-outs when turning suggest dirty contacts. Also check that the ES9038Pro DAC module correctly recognises the USB, optical and coaxial inputs, as a converter fault could limit the unit to its analogue inputs only. The dual-mono power supply capacitors, stressed by current peaks in class AB operation, should also be watched on an older unit, as should the condition of the heatsinks at the rear of the chassis.
