Description
The Quad Vena II Play is an integrated amplifier fitted with a built-in network streaming module, designed to stream high-resolution music over a wireless network using DTS Play-Fi technology. It allows music streams to be played from a smartphone, tablet, PC or NAS drive, and can be integrated into a multi-room system. It shares much of the design of the Vena II, including a reference Sabre32 ES9018K2M DAC and Bluetooth aptX connectivity.
The amplifier delivers an output power of 2x45W RMS into 8Ω and 2x65W RMS into 4Ω, with total harmonic distortion below 0.002% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 108 dB (A-weighted), ensuring clean reproduction at high levels. Frequency response extends from 20Hz to 20kHz. The MM phono input has a sensitivity of 4.1mV for an input impedance of 47kΩ / 100pF, allowing direct connection of a turntable fitted with a moving magnet cartridge without an external phono preamplifier.
The connectivity combines digital and analogue inputs and outputs: two optical inputs, one coaxial input, one USB Type A input, one coaxial output, one optical output, two analogue RCA inputs, one MM phono input and one RCA pre-out. This range of connections, combined with multiroom Wi-Fi streaming and Bluetooth aptX, makes it an amplifier suited to users wishing to bring together analogue sources (turntable, RCA equipment) and digital or network sources within the same stereo system.

What to check before buying used
On an amplifier of this type, the MM phono stage is worth checking by ear: background noise, hum or channel imbalance can indicate ageing components in this stage. The RCA connectors and the USB Type A input should be tested to rule out any loose contacts. It is also worth checking that the network functions (DTS Play-Fi, multiroom Wi-Fi, Bluetooth aptX) connect correctly, as these modules may require a software update depending on the age of the unit.
