Description
The Ania Pro is a moving coil (MC) cartridge from the Rega range, fitted with a bare diamond stylus with Vital profile. This type of stylus is designed to finely trace the vinyl groove and extract the maximum amount of engraved information, resulting in tight bass, warm midrange and precise treble.
Its construction is based on a rigid PPS body that limits unwanted resonance and ensures good mechanical stability of the playback system. The cartridge uses a micro-coil hand-wound onto an iron micro-cross, paired with a high-power neodymium magnet: this miniaturised assembly allows greater freedom of movement for the stylus within the groove, aiding the extraction of additional detail. Mounting is carried out using the Rega three-point method, which secures the connection to the headshell while automatically setting the overhang. A rigid red cover protects the fine internal wires during handling and mounting.
Electrically, the Ania Pro offers a nominal output voltage of 350 μV, an output impedance of 10 Ω for a recommended input load impedance of 100 Ω, and channel separation of -29 dB or better. The recommended tracking force is between 1.75 and 2.00 g.
This cartridge is aimed at owners of Rega Planar 3, Planar 6 or Planar 8 turntables, for which it is presented as a suitable partner; a factory-fitted version is indeed available for the Planar 6 and Planar 8. It will suit a vinyl enthusiast seeking a balanced, detailed playback on a system already built around the Rega ecosystem.

What to check before buying used
As the bare diamond stylus with Vital profile is particularly fine, its condition should be checked under a loupe or microscope before purchase, as wear or an impact can damage it without this being visible to the naked eye. Also check the cantilever suspension, which should remain supple and centred, as well as the integrity of the red cover protecting the fine internal wires. A listening test with a check of channel balance and absence of distortion will confirm the good condition of the MC generator before use.
