Description
The Apheta 3 is a moving coil (MC) cartridge designed by Rega to equip high-end turntables. It succeeds the Apheta 2 and draws on more than fifteen years of development of undamped micro-mass generation systems, coupled with jointless bodies.
The nude Fine Line profile diamond stylus, mounted at 90 degrees, employs a technique used on the reference Aphelion 2 model: this tip profile allows more detail to be extracted from the groove. The coil is hand-wound on an iron cross reduced by half compared to the MK1 model, which lightens the moving assembly and aids groove tracing. A custom, very high-power neodymium magnet completes the assembly. The body is a CNC-machined anodised aluminium monobloc, entirely redesigned, protected by a rigid, CAD-designed smoked cover that shields the internal wiring and ensures safe handling during fitting.

What to check before buying used
The Fine Line diamond stylus is a direct wear item: check its condition under a loupe or by ear (distortion, sibilance) before purchasing second-hand. Also check that the rigid smoked cover protecting the internal wiring is intact, as these wires are particularly fine and exposed during fitting or removal of the cartridge. Correct tracking force adjustment, between 1.9 and 2.00 g, should be checked when putting the cartridge back into service, to protect the groove and reading accuracy.
