Description
The Rega Planar 1 is a turntable designed for immediate use: the carbon cartridge is fitted at the factory and the tonearm bias preset, allowing installation in a matter of seconds without any complex prior adjustment.
The bespoke 24 V synchronous motor limits vibrations transmitted to the platter, whilst the Rega RB110 tonearm, hand-built from aluminium tubing, sits on ultra-low friction bearings designed by Rega for precise tracking. Drive is via an EBLT belt, a recent technology intended to improve speed stability. The 23 mm phenolic resin platter and the rigid thermoformed plastic plinth complete a structure designed for mechanical stability. The anti-skate mechanism is preset, the counterweight remains adjustable, and a lever allows the arm to be raised or lowered smoothly.

What to check before buying used
On a belt-drive turntable such as this, the EBLT belt is worth a visual check: it can stretch or crack over time, which affects speed stability. Also check the condition of the factory-fitted carbon cartridge, particularly the stylus, as well as the correct operation of the arm-lifting lever and the preset anti-skate mechanism.
