Description
The 212 Black Label is a subwoofer from REL, designed to reinforce both high-end stereo systems and home cinema installations. It stands out for its four-driver architecture featuring 30 cm units: two active woofers on the front baffle, a downward-firing passive radiator and a second unit on the rear panel, all fitted with carbon fibre cones.
The built-in amplifier delivers 1000 watts RMS, paired with a frequency response extending down to 18 Hz at -6 dB. This combination allows for deep bass reproduction while retaining speed of execution, two qualities that do not always go hand in hand on a subwoofer of this size. The 305 mm long-throw main driver, coupled with the passive radiator of the same diameter with a flat cone, contributes to this ability to move large volumes of air without losing precision.

What to check before buying used
The suspension of the four carbon fibre cones, particularly the downward-firing passive radiator, warrants close inspection as it is hard to access and bears the weight of the whole unit. The input connectors and wiring to the built-in amplifier should be checked, as should the absence of any play or spurious vibration in the cabinet given the unit's 60.8 kg weight. A test at high volume allows you to confirm that the two active woofers and the rear woofer remain consistent across the entire frequency range down to 18 Hz.
