Description
The HT/1205 MKII is an amplified subwoofer designed for home cinema, developed by REL to complement a multichannel setup or a pair of stereo speakers. It houses an amplification module and a driver in a sealed enclosure, with low-level inputs and outputs allowing several subwoofers to be daisy-chained together.
The NextGen5 Class D amplification module delivers 500 watts RMS to a 30 cm steel-chassis driver, fitted with a carbon fibre cone and an inverted carbon fibre dust cap. The frequency response extends down to 22 Hz at -6 dB, allowing the lowest frequencies of the bandwidth to be reproduced. The 95 dB gain, the high-cut frequency adjustable between 40 and 140 Hz, and the 0-180° phase switch allow the subwoofer to be tailored to the room acoustics and the main speakers. A switchable automatic on/standby function is provided in addition to the main On/Off switch.

What to check before buying used
The 30 cm carbon fibre driver should be examined for any signs of denting or cone deformation, particularly if the subwoofer has been driven at high volume. Check that the phase and high-cut switches work correctly, as well as the stability of the automatic standby function, which can become unreliable with age. Checking the condition of the input and output RCA connectors is also worthwhile if several subwoofers are to be daisy-chained.
