REL No.32
REL No.32 reference subwoofer, with 1000 W Class D amplification and 380 mm carbon fibre driver, for demanding hi-fi or home cinema systems.
Description
The REL No.32 is a high-end active subwoofer, designed to complement hi-fi or home cinema systems seeking precise and controlled bass extension. It belongs to REL's reference range, positioned at the top of the manufacturer's line-up.
The unit features a single 380 mm carbon fibre driver, paired with a Class D amplifier delivering 1000 W RMS. This combination allows a claimed frequency extension down to 15 Hz at -6 dB, corresponding to reproduction of the deepest bass, as much felt as heard. Phase is adjustable from 0 to 180° via a switch, a setting that allows the timing coherence between the subwoofer and the rest of the system to be adjusted according to placement within the room.
Connectivity is particularly comprehensive: high-level inputs in Neutrik Speakon format, low-level XLR and RCA inputs, as well as LFE inputs in XLR and RCA. On the output side, there is also high-level Speakon, an LFE XLR output and an XLR line output. This range of connections allows integration into either a two-channel hi-fi system or a multichannel home cinema installation.
The REL No.32 is aimed at users with a high-end hi-fi or home cinema installation, seeking bass reinforcement capable of finely matching demanding main speakers. Its size and weight of 85 kg call for a dedicated space and careful consideration of its placement within the listening room.

What to check before buying used
The suspension of the carbon fibre driver deserves a visual and audible check: asymmetric excursion or an audible rubbing noise at low frequencies indicates a sagging or off-centred coil. The Class D amplifier module, driven by the 1000 W RMS power output, should start up without unwanted relay noise or cutting out into thermal protection. It is also worth testing the 0-180° phase switch and all the Speakon and XLR connectors, whose contacts can oxidise over time.
