The REL Planar PL2 is an ultra-slim active subwoofer, designed to complement a stereo or home cinema system without adding visual bulk. Its reduced footprint allows it to be installed either wall-mounted or as a freestanding floor unit, depending on the room layout and integration constraints.
The PL2 pairs a 205 mm (8-inch) long-throw active driver, fitted with a FlatPiston diaphragm mounted on a steel chassis, with a 250 mm (10-inch) rear passive radiator featuring a FibreAlloy diaphragm. This combination of active unit and passive radiator delivers bass extension measured at -6 dB at 24 Hz under real listening conditions, a notable result for such a compact subwoofer.

What to check before buying used
Both the FibreAlloy passive radiator and the FlatPiston driver's surrounds warrant a visual check: look for any deformation, cracking or signs of sagging on either diaphragm. Also check for any unwanted noise (rubbing, buzzing) by driving the bass at moderate volume, which could indicate misalignment of the passive radiator or play in its mounting. As the flat cabinet is thin, inspect the corners and rear panel for knocks or marks from a previous wall mount.
