REL T5x

The REL T/5x is an active subwoofer designed to complement a pair of speakers in small to medium-sized rooms. Its design relies on downward-firing dispersion: the driver, mounted beneath the cabinet, projects bass energy towards the floor, which then disperses it throughout the room, a principle usually reserved for larger-volume models. This orientation also does away with the need for a protective grille, leaving the four visible sides of the cabinet exposed in a clean finish.

The driver measures 200 mm in diameter, mounted in a sealed enclosure with a long-throw suspension. Its cone combines aluminium and paper, with an inverted alloy dust cap, all housed in a steel chassis. Amplification is handled by a Class AB module delivering 125 watts RMS, with a low-frequency response reaching down to 32 Hz at -6 dB. The gain control spans 80 dB and operates independently depending on the input used (high level, low level or LFE), while the high cut-off frequency is adjustable between 30 and 120 Hz and the phase switchable between 0 and 180°.

The T/5x's connectivity includes a mono low-level input via RCA, a stereo high-level input in Neutrik Speakon format, an LFE .1 input via RCA, as well as a dedicated input for a REL Arrow wireless transmitter unit, allowing the cabling between the amplifier and the subwoofer to be dispensed with.

This subwoofer is suited to a stereo hi-fi or home cinema system installed in a living room or a small to medium-sized room, where footprint and visual integration matter as much as bass performance. The multiple inputs and phase control allow it to be paired with either a conventional integrated amplifier or a multichannel setup via the LFE input.
