Description
The REL T/9x is an active subwoofer designed to extend the bass response of a HiFi or home cinema system. It is intended to complement bookshelf or stand-mounted speakers, covering the full sound spectrum without sacrificing speed or precision in the low frequencies.
Its class AB amplification module delivers 300 watts RMS, paired with a 254 mm long-throw front-firing driver. The composite aluminium and paper cone, with an inverted alloy dust cap, is complemented by a downward-firing 254 mm passive radiator, which boosts output in the lower part of the spectrum. Frequency response extends down to 27 Hz (-6 dB), with a high-pass crossover frequency adjustable between 30 and 120 Hz. Gain, adjustable over an 80 dB range, is set independently on the high-level, low-level and LFE inputs, and a 0-180° phase switch allows fine-tuning of integration with the main speakers.
Connectivity includes a mono low-level input via RCA, a stereo high-level input via Neutrik Speakon, an LFE .1 input via RCA, and a dedicated input for the optional REL Arrow wireless transmitter unit.
This subwoofer is aimed at both HiFi enthusiasts and home cinema systems looking to combine controlled, extended bass with high-quality main speakers, without the subwoofer overshadowing their sonic signature.

What to check before buying used
The downward-firing passive radiator and long-throw driver should be free of deformation or audible rubbing when tested at moderate volume. Check that the independent gain controls (high-level, low-level, LFE), the 0-180° phase switch and the crossover frequency control all function correctly, as the potentiometers can become oxidised over time. Also check the condition of the Neutrik Speakon connector and confirm there is no unwanted noise from the main power supply.
