Description
The Atalante 4 is a three-way floorstanding speaker from Revival Audio, designed by Daniel Emonts, a designer recognised for his tweeters. It combines a 28 mm soft dome tweeter, a midrange driver and two woofer drivers, for sound reproduction split across three distinct crossovers at 550 Hz and 3.0 kHz.
The tweeter features the patented ARID (Anti-Reflection Inner Dome) technology and rear chamber damping designed to absorb more than 95% of the moving assembly's resonances, which lowers the resonance frequency and limits colouration in the upper part of the spectrum. Its asymmetric suspension promotes linear guidance of the dome, while its oversized ferrite magnet contributes to its efficiency. The 13.5 cm midrange and the two 18 cm woofers share a Basalt Sandwich Construction (BSC) diaphragm, a three-layer material combining basalt, felt and polymer adhesive, prized for its balance between rigidity and lightness. The woofers are mounted on an open 10-spoke chassis and fitted with ferrite magnets over 15 cm in diameter. The crossover is tuned by ear by Revival Audio, with a deliberately limited number of components, and the internal wiring uses Van Den Hul Skyline Hybrid cables.
With a stated frequency response of 38 Hz to 22 kHz, a sensitivity of 89 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the Atalante 4 is designed for rooms of 30 to 60 m² and requires an amplifier of at least 50 W, with a power handling of up to 180 W. It is aimed at high-fidelity enthusiasts with a substantial listening space and electronics capable of driving a load with a minimum impedance of 3.2 ohms at 120 Hz.
The cabinet, designed in collaboration with A+A Cooren Design Studio in Paris, is veneered in genuine light or dark walnut wood, with a horizontal band and a laser-engraved logo inlaid between the tweeter and the midrange. Removable fabric grilles, held on by magnets, allow the drivers to be concealed.

What to check before buying used
Check the suppleness of the suspensions on both BSC-7 woofers: sagging or tearing around the cone surround indicates ageing or use at high power. Also inspect the cabinetwork, particularly the corners and veneer of the 1.20 m columns, which are prone to handling damage. A slight tonal mismatch between the two speakers may indicate uneven ageing of the crossover or of the Basalt Sandwich Construction diaphragms.
