Description
The Caspian 4G is a stereo integrated amplifier from the British brand Roksan, designed to centralise an entire hi-fi installation, whether based on analogue or digital sources. It features a Rapture DAC for digital-to-analogue conversion and a dedicated phono input, allowing it to serve as the sole hub of a system combining a turntable, digital sources and wireless connections.
The amplification is Class AB and delivers 2x 105W into 8 Ohms. The frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with total harmonic distortion (THD+N) below 0.02% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 108 dB, figures that reflect a clean, uncoloured signal reproduction. The 29 dB gain and channel separation above 85 dB contribute to a precise stereo image, while the chassis combines a front and top cover in machined, extruded aluminium with heat sinks also made of extruded aluminium.
The connectivity covers both analogue and digital: two XLR inputs, one RCA stereo phono input compatible with MM/MC, two coaxial digital inputs and two optical digital inputs. On the output side, the unit offers an RCA preOut, a Sub output and an XLR preOut, allowing pairing with a separate power amplifier or an active subwoofer. AptX, SBC and AAC Bluetooth as well as the MaestroUnite control app round out the package for wireless control.
This type of amplifier is aimed at a user wishing to bring together a turntable, digital sources and Bluetooth streaming around a single unit, without sacrificing conversion quality or amplification precision. The presence of pre-amplified outputs also allows for a future upgrade to a separate power stage.

What to check before buying used
The volume potentiometer is worth checking at the start and end of its travel, listening for any crackling that would indicate oxidation. The XLR and RCA phono inputs, as well as the coaxial and optical digital connectors, should be tested with each source to rule out any loose contact. Extended listening at high volume also allows you to check for the absence of hum or distortion that could reveal ageing capacitors, and inspecting the aluminium heat sinks confirms there are no signs of overheating.
