Description
The RA180 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Rose, designed to drive a pair of speakers directly without any additional electronics. It incorporates a built-in moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) phono stage, selectable via switch, allowing a turntable to be connected without the need for an external preamplifier.
Its architecture is based on independent amplification modules: each channel has a dedicated module for low frequencies and a dedicated module for high frequencies, each capable of delivering 200 W into 8 ohms, for a stated combined power of 800 watts. This separation allows each frequency band to operate without being disturbed by the back electromotive force generated by the other. The unit also offers a BTL mode, which combines the output of two independent modules for a denser sound, as well as a variable crossover frequency in bi-amplification configuration. Frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, with total harmonic distortion stated at 0.005%.
The phono equaliser is adjustable, with values corresponding to the curves of various record manufacturers, built with components of 0.1% tolerance. Tone control offers a range of +/- 15 dB, complemented by a balance control, a geared volume potentiometer and needle VU meters for visual output level monitoring. A pure direct mode allows the tone stages to be bypassed when not needed.
This type of amplifier is aimed at a demanding stereo system, combining a vinyl source with digital or analogue sources via its three RCA inputs and its XLR input, with the possibility of using bi-amplification thanks to the eight pairs of screw terminals available. The presence of a trigger input and an IR input makes it easier to integrate into a controlled installation.

What to check before buying used
On this type of integrated amplifier, check that the phono stage's MM/MC switch operates correctly and that there is no crackling from the volume and balance potentiometers. Test each amplification module independently (bass and treble, on both channels) to rule out any imbalance or distortion, particularly in BTL mode. A check of the power supply capacitors and the condition of the screw terminals is also recommended before purchase.
