The Sennheiser HD 598 is an open-back circumaural audiophile headphone, designed for sedentary listening in a quiet environment. Its open-back design allows air to circulate through the earcups, favouring a spacious sound rather than strong sound isolation.
The headphones feature 50 mm dynamic transducers with Duofol diaphragm and aluminium voice coil, a combination aimed at an extended frequency response, measured here from 12 Hz to 38.5 kHz, with distortion stated at below 0.1 %. What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the earpads and headband, elements in foam or fabric that sag or degrade over time and with use. The cable and the connection points to the earcups should also be checked, along with the integrity of the perforated grilles specific to the open-back design, which are more exposed to knocks and dust than a closed-back headphone.
