Description
The Sonance RK83 is an outdoor speaker designed to blend into a garden thanks to its rock-shaped casing. It allows music to be played in an outdoor space while remaining visually discreet, without disrupting the landscaping.
It features a 203 mm woofer/midrange driver with a polypropylene cone and Santoprene surround, paired with a 25 mm polyurethane dome tweeter cooled by ferrofluid. This type of surround and ferrofluid cooling are choices suited to prolonged outdoor use, where humidity and temperature variations put more strain on materials than indoors. With a power handling of up to 150 W, a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 90 dB, it can provide sound for a relatively large garden area without requiring an oversized amplifier.
This model is aimed at those wishing to equip a terrace, garden or any outdoor space exposed to the elements, without installing visible or unsightly equipment. Its design makes it particularly well suited to landscape integration, in a pathway, flowerbed or near a terrace.

What to check before buying used
The polypropylene woofer/midrange cone and its Santoprene surround hold up well to outdoor ageing, but check for cracks or lifting on the fake rock casing, especially on a unit left outdoors for several years. Inspect the tweeter dome (25 mm) for any dents or signs of oxidation caused by humidity, and listen for treble reproduction that would indicate dried-out ferrofluid. Also examine the rock casing itself for cracks, UV discolouration or water ingress around the cable entry points, which can indicate prolonged exposure to the elements.
