Sonos In Ceiling 8"

This pair of Sonos in-ceiling speakers belongs to the Architectural range, developed in collaboration with Sonance. These are passive speakers designed to be installed in the ceiling, intended for discreet sound diffusion in a room without the visual presence of conventional speakers. They require an external amplifier to function, sold separately.

Each speaker features a 3 cm dome tweeter paired with a 20.3 cm polypropylene midrange/woofer. The rated power of 150 watts, with a maximum threshold of 225 watts, allows for listening at sustained volume without straining the system. The frequency response extends from 29 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB) when DSP processing is active, allowing relatively deep bass to be reproduced for an in-ceiling speaker of this size. The impedance of 8 ohms and sensitivity of 86 dB place these speakers within a conventional usage range with a suitable amplifier, with the sound pressure level reaching up to 113 dB at 1 metre.

Paired with a Sonos Amp, these speakers benefit from optimised calibration for a more even frequency response, as well as access to Trueplay technology in the Sonos app, which adjusts the sound according to the room's acoustic reflection. A single Sonos Amp can power up to three pairs of these speakers in parallel wiring, six speakers in total, to fill a larger room with sound. The Sonos app also allows equalisation adjustment via DSP and consistent sound level limiting across the entire spectrum.

This model is suited to those wishing to incorporate Sonos multiroom sound diffusion into a room without installing visible speakers, typically in a living room, kitchen or bathroom renovated with a false ceiling. The integrated frameless grille can be painted to blend with the ceiling colour, which suits a carefully considered architectural integration.
