Sonus faber Duetto
Active two-way speaker in bookshelf format, with built-in amplification, wireless streaming and phono input, for high-fidelity listening without separate electronics.
Description
The Sonus faber Duetto is a connected two-way speaker, designed in bookshelf format. It integrates its own amplification and features several wireless connection modes, making it possible to build a complete listening system without a separate amplifier or source. Communication between the two speakers is wireless, simplifying installation.
Each speaker pairs a 12.7 cm midrange/woofer with a paper pulp cone and a soft dome silk tweeter, driven by four-channel amplification: 100 W in class AB for the tweeter and 250 W in class D for the midrange/woofer, totalling 700 W for the pair. This split allows the smoothness of class AB on the treble to be combined with the efficiency of class D on the lower end of the spectrum. Frequency response extends from 37 Hz to 30 kHz, with a crossover frequency set at 1900 Hz and a maximum sound level of 105 dB, allowing dynamic listening without saturation. The genuine wood cabinet, shaped like a lute, reinforces the internal structure to limit vibrations and unwanted resonances, while the top panel is finished in leather.
In terms of connectivity, the Duetto receives music via AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Roon or Bluetooth aptX HD, with direct access to Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect. Wired connections include an HDMI ARC input, an optical input, an RCA input switchable between line and phono, as well as an RJ45 Ethernet port, allowing a turntable or a television to be connected.
This type of speaker is aimed at a high-fidelity listening enthusiast looking for a compact and stylish solution, without multiplying the components of a traditional system, while retaining the option of connecting a vinyl source or a television via HDMI eARC.

What to check before buying used
With this type of connected active speaker, each streaming source (AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth aptX HD) should be tested, along with the wireless link between the two speakers, which can become unreliable over time. Also check that the phono input works correctly if you intend to connect a turntable, and inspect the condition of the leather finish on the top panel, which is prone to wear marks. Checking the built-in amplification across the full volume range helps ensure there is no crackling or cutting out.
