Description
The Gravis V is an active subwoofer by Sonus faber, belonging to the Gravis collection dedicated to low-frequency reproduction. Positioned among the most powerful models in the range, it was designed to be paired with the Hommage Tradition and Reference full-range speaker collections, of which it forms the bass complement.
Its high-linearity Class AB amplification delivers a nominal power of 850 W, with a possible peak of 1200 W. The 32 cm long-throw woofer, fitted with a honeycomb sandwich cone and a wide forward-facing rubber surround, allows a claimed frequency response of 25 Hz up to a high range of between 40 and 150 Hz depending on the setting. What to check before buying used
The 32 cm long-throw woofer warrants careful inspection of the rubber surround: cracks, hardening or sagging directly affect deep bass performance. Also check that the automatic calibration and 0°-360° phase adjustment function correctly, as this electronics can drift out of alignment with age. Test each type of input (RCA, XLR, Speakon) to rule out any loose contact in the connections, and listen at high volume to detect any Class AB amplification noise that might indicate wear in the internal components.
