Description
The Gravis VI is an active subwoofer designed by Sonus faber to complement the brand's most accomplished full-range speakers, notably the Hommage Tradition and Reference collections. It belongs to the Gravis collection, heir to the brand's very first subwoofer launched in 1986, and embodies Sonus faber's return to its roots in low-frequency reproduction.
The unit is built around a sealed enclosure architecture combined with high-linearity Class AB amplification. It houses two 32 cm long-throw drivers, fitted with a honeycomb sandwich cone and a wide rubber surround, designed to deliver a nominal power of 1700 W and a peak power of 2400 W. Frequency response extends from 18 Hz to a band between 40 and 150 Hz depending on the setting. Automatic calibration and a signal phase continuously adjustable from 0° to 360° allow precise integration of the subwoofer into the listening environment.
Connectivity includes a mono RCA LFE input shared with the RCA line input, a stereo RCA line input, a stereo XLR line input shared with the mono XLR LFE input, as well as a high-level 4-pole Neutrik Speakon input, offering several connection options depending on the system configuration.

What to check before buying used
The automatic calibration and 0°-360° phase should be tested when setting the unit back up: a poorly adjusted example may sound weak or out of step even if the drivers themselves are fine. Also check the excursion of both 32 cm drivers through the grilles, as a hardened or split surround points to a subwoofer left unused for a long time. Finally, the RCA/XLR connectivity shared between LFE and line should be tested on each input, as these selectors are the first likely source of a faulty contact.
