Description
The Lumina II is a 2-way bookshelf speaker from Sonus faber, designed and made in Italy. It belongs to the Lumina collection, created to make a refined sound experience accessible without requiring a bulky installation, whilst retaining the materials characteristic of the brand.
The 15 cm woofer uses a cone made of cellulose pulp and natural fibres, paired with a D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) silk dome tweeter of 2.9 cm. The crossover distributing frequencies between the two drivers has been refined for its amplitude and phase response, with a crossover frequency set at 1800 Hz. The front-firing bass-reflex port makes positioning the speaker easier, including near a rear wall. Frequency response extends from 55 Hz to 24 kHz, with a sensitivity of 86 dB/2.83 V/m and an impedance of 4 ohms; recommended power ranges from 30 to 150 W RMS, allowing fairly generous headroom on the amplification side. The bi-amping terminal allows the power supply to the two drivers to be separated, where the installation permits.

What to check before buying used
The woofer cone, made of cellulose pulp and natural fibres, may show signs of ageing or discolouration over time: check for tears or sagging around the surround. Also check the D.A.D. silk dome tweeter, which is sensitive to accidental dents, as well as the front-firing bass-reflex port, whose duct must not be cracked. Examine the bi-amping terminal for any looseness or contact oxidation, and inspect the cabinet's characteristic veneer for deep scratches or lifting at the corners.
