Description
The Maxima Amator is a compact 2-way speaker from Sonus faber's Heritage range, entirely made in Italy. It revisits the brand's historic 2-way concept, applied here to a solid wood floorstanding cabinet, a project the brand describes as having been set aside for a long time before finally being realised.
The cabinet is built from 20 sheets of bonded solid walnut, each 25 mm thick, a design intended to widen the resonance spectrum of the cabinet. The front baffle and rear panel are covered in leather. The loading is bass-reflex, with a circular port at the rear. The speaker pairs a 15 cm woofer/midrange driver with a cellulose pulp and natural fibre cone, mounted on an aluminium basket, with a 28 mm silk dome tweeter benefiting from DAD technology. The crossover is based on a Paracross topology, with an anti-resonance design aimed at optimising amplitude and phase responses. The crossover frequency sits at 2500 Hz at -6 dB, for a stated frequency response of 50 Hz to 35 kHz. With a sensitivity of 87 dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, it is designed to be driven by amplifiers delivering between 35 W and 150 W. The screw terminals accept banana plugs and allow for bi-amping.
