The Olympica Nova Center I is a centre speaker from Sonus Faber, designed to extend the sonic qualities of the Olympica Nova range within a home cinema configuration or multichannel system. It incorporates the technological advances developed for the entire Olympica Nova line, whilst retaining the acoustic approach that characterises the Italian brand.
The 28 mm silk dome tweeter integrates DAD (Damped Apex Dome) technology, with a magnetic motor fitted with a neodymium cap. The dome and ring of this system have been redesigned and are made from cast aluminium. The midrange and mid-woofer drivers are derived from those used in the Homage Tradition collection, with improvements made specifically for this range. The woofer uses a cone manufactured using an exclusive sandwich technique, where two sheets of cellulose pulp enclose a high-tech synthetic foam; this construction, both lightweight and rigid, aims for a fast and powerful bass reproduction whilst ensuring coherence with the mid-to-high register.
The crossover uses the Paracross Topology, revised to be less sensitive to radio frequency interference, with the aim of improving transient response and reducing background noise. The entire Olympica Nova line, including this centre model, adopts Clarity Cap capacitors developed specifically for Sonus Faber.
This centre speaker is aimed at demanding home cinema enthusiasts wishing to pair the centre channel of a multichannel installation with Olympica Nova main speakers, in pursuit of tonal coherence between channels. It naturally finds its place in an installation where the reproduction of dialogue and centre effects must remain faithful and precise.
What to check before buying used
The suspension of the mid-woofer and woofer drivers should remain supple and free of cracks, a sign of ageing that affects bass performance. Also check the condition of the tweeter's silk dome, which is prone to dents or tears from careless handling. Finally, examine the lacquered or veneered cabinet: scratches, chipped corners or lifting finish indicate careless storage or transport.
