Description
The Olympica Nova Center II is a 3-way bass-reflex centre speaker from Sonus Faber, designed to integrate into a high-end home cinema or multichannel system. It extends the Olympica Nova line by ensuring tonal continuity with the range's main speakers, an essential role for reproducing dialogue and the central soundstage with precision.
The 28 mm silk dome tweeter incorporates DAD (Damped Apex Dome) technology, paired with a neodymium capped magnetic motor, for detailed and controlled treble reproduction. The dome and ring of this system are made of cast aluminium. The two 18 cm woofers use a sandwich diaphragm in which a high-technology syntactic foam is sandwiched between two sheets of cellulose pulp, a lightweight and rigid structure that promotes a fast response and good coherence with the two 15 cm midrange drivers with CCAW voice coil. The crossover uses the Paracross topology with Clarity Cap capacitors developed specifically for Sonus Faber, reducing sensitivity to radio frequency interference and background noise. The frequency response extends from 35 Hz to 35 kHz, with a sensitivity of 90 dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms; recommended power ranges from 50 W to 300 W.

What to check before buying used
On this three-way centre speaker, check the condition of the sandwich diaphragms on the two 18 cm woofers: the syntactic foam sandwiched between the cellulose sheets can deteriorate or delaminate with age. Also check the suspensions of the midrange drivers and ensure there is no play or unwanted noise in the tweeter's silk dome, which is sensitive to impact despite its cast aluminium protection. Finally, examine the cabinet, particularly the corners and front panel, as well as the cleanliness of the Paracross crossover's connectors.
