Description
The Olympica Nova II is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from Sonus faber, designed with a bass-reflex loading of the full para-aperiodic vented box type known as "Stealth Ultraflex". It extends the Olympica line by incorporating technological developments to the drivers, the crossover, the cabinet structure and the external design.
The 28 mm silk dome tweeter is based on DAD (Damped Apex Dome) technology, with a redesigned dome and surround made from cast aluminium, and a neodymium magnet motor with cap ("Neodymium Cap Design"). The midrange and midbass drivers are derived from those used in the Homage Tradition collection, with improvements brought to this new generation.
The woofer uses a cone made using an exclusive sandwich technique, combining two sheets of cellulose pulp and a high-technology synthetic foam. This construction, both light and rigid, aims for fast and powerful bass reproduction while ensuring sonic coherence with the mid-high frequencies.
The crossover is based on Paracross Topology technology, revised to be less sensitive to radio frequency interference, with the aim of a better transient response and reduced background noise. The entire range uses Clarity Cap capacitors developed specifically for Sonus faber.
This floorstanding speaker is aimed at hi-fi listening enthusiasts seeking careful sound reproduction across the full spectrum, in a stereo or high-end home cinema configuration.
What to check before buying used
The suspensions of the woofer and midbass drivers deserve close visual inspection, as hardened, cracked or detached foam or rubber affects bass performance. The very thin silk dome of the DAD tweeter cannot tolerate any dents or deformation of its aluminium dome. The lacquered cabinetwork and leather side panels should also be inspected, as they are prone to chipping, scratching and discolouration, along with the fixing of the plinths and decoupling spikes.
