The Olympica Nova V is a floorstanding speaker from Sonus faber, designed in continuity with the original Olympica line while incorporating recent technological developments. The manufacturer has revised the drivers, the crossovers, the cabinet structure and the internal volume tuning, within a new exterior design.
The tweeter is based on DAD (Damped Apex Dome) technology, with a 28 mm silk dome diaphragm and a magnetic motor featuring Neodymium Cap Design technology. The dome surround and ring of this system have been redesigned and are made from cast aluminium, contributing to the precision and stability of the high-frequency reproduction.
The midrange and mid-woofer drivers are derived from those used in the Homage Tradition collection, with improvements introduced for this new generation. The woofer uses a cone made using an exclusive sandwich technique, combining two layers of cellulose pulp with a high-tech synthetic foam. This structure, both lightweight and rigid, aims for fast, powerful bass reproduction while maintaining sonic coherence with the midrange and treble.
The crossover retains Paracross Topology, here made less sensitive to radio frequency interference, which improves transient response and reduces background noise. The whole line adopts new Clarity Cap capacitors developed specifically for Sonus faber.

What to check before buying used
On a speaker of this size, the woofer's suspensions deserve close visual inspection: sagging or hardening of the surround affects performance at the low end of the spectrum. Also check the cabinet (veneer, corners, foot mountings) for signs of impact or moisture, and listen to the tweeter, midrange and woofer separately to rule out any crackling or level loss on one channel. The protective grille and the condition of the lacquered finish also give a good indication of how well the unit has been cared for.
