Description
The Sonetto Center G2 is a 2-way centre speaker with bass-reflex loading, designed to integrate into Sonus faber's Sonetto collection. It fulfils the role of central channel in a multichannel setup, handling the reproduction of dialogue and central sound elements of the soundstage.
Its architecture is built around two 16.5 cm woofers with paper pulp cones, a 10 cm midrange driver with a white paper pulp cone, and a 28 mm silk dome tweeter. The crossover frequencies are set at 350 Hz and 4000 Hz, dividing the work between the three transducers. Frequency response extends from 45 Hz to 40 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with a sensitivity of 88 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. Recommended amplification power ranges from 50 to 300 W, allowing a comfortable margin depending on the associated electronics. The bass-reflex loading with front-firing port makes it easier to position against a wall or inside a TV cabinet. The terminals support bi-amping, allowing the bass and treble circuits to be separated where the installation allows.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the surrounds on both woofers and the midrange driver: the foam or fabric can stiffen or tear over time, which affects dialogue reproduction. Also inspect the tweeter dome, which is prone to denting if touched, as well as the cabinet and veneer on the edges, often marked during transport of this centre speaker when laid flat. Finally, test both channels separately if the unit has been used in bi-amping configuration, to detect any asymmetry between channels.
