Description
The Sony VPL-XW6100ES is a native 4K laser video projector designed for home cinema installation. It projects an image with a diagonal ranging from 60 to 300 inches (1,524 mm to 7,620 mm), with a projection distance of between 1.82 m and 14.4 m, making it adaptable to rooms of varying sizes.
Maximum brightness reaches 2,700 lumens, combined with a dynamic contrast presented as infinite, delivering deep blacks and pronounced contrast. The unit features an XR processor for projectors, derived from the image processing technologies used in Sony televisions, and supports HDR in HDR10/HLG format.
The optics are fully motorised: focus, zoom (2.1x ratio) and lens shift with a range of +/- 85% vertically and +/- 36% horizontally. Keystone correction is also available, making installation easier in constrained rooms. The projection ratio ranges from 1.35:1 to 2.84:1.
The light source is a phosphor laser lamp, rated for a lifespan of 20,000 hours, limiting maintenance interventions over the long term. Minimum operating noise is 26 dB, a level compatible with installation in a dedicated room.

What to check before buying used
The VPL-XW6100ES's laser module ages better than a conventional lamp, but you should check the operating hours counter as well as the brightness uniformity across the entire image surface, as a convergence fault or a spot could indicate an impact to the optical unit. Systematically test the motorised zoom, focus and lens shift across their full range, as these mechanisms are prone to sticking after prolonged storage. Checking the fans (noise, vibrations) and the HDMI 2.1 inputs with an actual 4K/HDR source completes the inspection.
