SPL Director MK2
Description
The SPL Director MK2 reference preamplifier, silver version, builds on the principle of the Director model by adding support for sampling rates of up to 32-bit / 768 kHz, as well as DSD4 and DSD256 formats. It offers a tape loop for users of analogue tape recorders or external processing, and provides six analogue stereo inputs, including two balanced inputs on XLR connectors. On the digital side, it handles conversion via USB of S/PDIF signals (optical and coaxial), AES/EBU, as well as PCM and DSD audio streams. Approximately two seconds after selecting a digital source, the LED matrix display shows the detected frequency: for example, the indication U768 corresponds to a USB input at 768 kHz. The unit, slightly taller than the previous version, is distinguished by a large 45 mm aluminium knob with a position LED, as well as two mechanical VU meters, all within a design that remains understated and refined.
Remote control of the Director MK2 is carried out using any commercially available infrared remote, thanks to a quick learning procedure activated by the "Learn IR-Remote" switch located on the rear of the unit. Four functions can thus be freely assigned to the remote's buttons: volume up and down, as well as moving to the next or previous source. Remote control of source selection is, however, only active when the rotary selector is set to "Remote".
