SPL Performer S800

The Performer s800 is an ultra-compact stereo power amplifier designed by SPL, entirely analogue and built around a toroidal transformer power supply. It belongs to the brand's Pro-Fi range, which adapts technologies from professional studios to domestic high-fidelity use.

Thanks to VOLTAiR technology, the amplifier maintains precise control over loudspeakers right up to their load limits. In stereo operation, this bipolar transistor amplifier delivers up to 2x285 W into 4 ohms; in bridged mode, it provides 450 W into 8 ohms, a configuration useful for driving a single demanding speaker. The 855 VA toroidal transformer and 40800 µF capacitors provide an energy reserve intended to faithfully reproduce signal transient peaks. Two protection circuits safeguard the unit: one shuts down the amplifier if DC voltage is detected at the output (a possible sign of a fault in the power stage), the other stops it in the event of overheating beyond 70°C, with automatic restart once the temperature drops below 55°C. Temp and Protect LEDs on the front panel indicate these states. In terms of connectivity, the unit is equipped with Neutrik XLR inputs and outputs for balanced operation, slave-through outputs allowing a second amplifier to be powered for bi-wiring, and a Trim control adjustable from 0 dB to -5.5 dB in 0.5 dB steps to balance the level between speakers. The output terminals are gold-plated, compatible with banana plugs or bare cable up to 4 mm in diameter, and protected by a plastic cover. A 3.5 mm mono AMP CTR jack allows automatic power-on when connected to a compatible preamplifier, such as the Director or the Phonitor x from the same range.
