Stax SRE-950S
5-metre Stax extension cable with proprietary 5-pin connectors, compatible with all of the brand's electrostatic headphones.
Description
The SRE-950S is an extension cable designed by Stax to lengthen the connection between one of the brand's electrostatic headphones and its dedicated amplifier. At 5 metres long, it allows greater distance from the source without altering the nature of the transmitted signal.
This cable uses a flat pure OFC copper conductor, coated with a solid 6N-AG silver plating. This construction draws on the cabling technology used in the flagship SR-009 headphones, ensuring consistent signal handling right through to listening, with no degradation caused by the added length.
Connection is made via a female Stax proprietary 5-pin connector on one side and a male Stax proprietary 5-pin connector on the other, ensuring compatibility with the entire Stax headphone range, including the brand's earliest models.
This type of extension is intended for users of Stax electrostatic headphones who want more freedom of movement around their listening position, or who have a setup where the electrostatic amplifier is positioned away from the usual listening spot.
What to check before buying used
The pins on the Stax proprietary 5-pin connector deserve close inspection: they bend easily, and a poor contact results in crackling or loss of channel. The sheath should also be checked along its full length for pinching or cracking, as repeated bending can weaken the internal shielding at the junction with the plugs. Testing both channels by ear while moving the headphones can reveal a loose contact before purchase.
