Description
The SRM-D10 MkII is an amplifier dedicated to Stax PRO type electrostatic headphones. Compact and battery-powered, it differs from conventional headphone amplifiers through its specific 580 V DC bias, required for the operation of Stax Earspeakers, which cannot be driven by a conventional headphone amplifier.
The unit accepts a USB-C digital input and a 3.5 mm analogue input, with battery charging also via USB-C 3.0. On the Line In input, the input impedance of 10 kΩ and the nominal input level of 230 mV for a 100 V output reflect a high gain of 53 dB, equivalent to a 450-times amplification, consistent with the voltages required by electrostatic technology. Harmonic distortion remains contained to a maximum of 0.025% between 1 kHz and 10 kHz, for a frequency response covering 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
This model is aimed at owners of Stax PRO type headphones seeking a portable or desktop amplification solution, in a compact format of 75 x 32 x 141 mm for a weight of 450 g.

What to check before buying used
The internal battery, stressed by the high 580 V DC bias required for electrostatic headphones, deserves a check of its battery life and its ability to hold charge over time. It is also advisable to test the USB-C port, used both for digital audio input and charging, as well as the correct operation of both headphone output channels at a constant sound level.
