Supra Dual RCA
Supra Dual RCA interconnect cable for connecting a source to a preamplifier, designed to limit interference and preserve signal quality.
Description
The Supra Dual is a pair of RCA interconnect cables, intended for analogue line-level connections, typically between a source (player, tuner, turntable with phono preamplifier) and a preamplifier. It is a classic modulation cable, designed to transmit the audio signal without degradation between two links in a hi-fi chain.
Its design is based on a semi-balanced configuration: the shielding is earthed at only one end of the cable, the end where the text marking begins. This end should be connected on the source side. This technical choice prevents the signal from travelling through the shielding, which then serves solely to protect against electromagnetic interference.
The shielding is provided by an aluminium foil, complemented by symmetrically twisted strands to limit magnetic pickup. The cable is also characterised by low linear capacitance, a parameter that promotes fast signal transmission and limits the degradation of high frequencies on the connection.
This cable is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts looking to improve the reliability of the connection between their source and their preamplifier, particularly in environments prone to electromagnetic interference, where a poorly shielded connection can introduce background noise or hum.
What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the RCA connectors at both ends: no play, corrosion or poor contact, which can cause crackling or signal loss. It is also useful to check that the sheath and internal twist have not been bent or damaged in a way that could affect the shielding, and to clearly identify the marked end intended for connection on the source side, a necessary condition for the semi-balanced design to work correctly.
