Description
The Soprano is an integrated tube amplifier from Synthesis, combining a tube section with a built-in DAC allowing digital sources to be connected directly. It is positioned as an entry-level model in the manufacturer's range, designed by Luigi Lorenzon with an uncompromising approach to materials and design.
Output power is delivered by a pair of EL84 tubes operating in ULL (Ultra Linear) mode according to a push-pull topology, for a minimum output of 12 watts per channel. The Soprano also features an output transformer of specific design, developed for this model, which contributes to the sonic character sought by the manufacturer.
This type of amplifier is aimed at audiophiles wishing to be introduced to tube sound without multiplying the number of components in the system, thanks to the built-in DAC which simplifies the connection of digital sources. What to check before buying used
EL84 tubes are consumables: check their wear condition or ask how long ago they were last replaced, as a tired set will result in a loss of dynamics or humming. Check the operation of the built-in DAC as well as the cleanliness of the volume and source selection potentiometers, which are often prone to crackling with age. A check of the output transformer specific to the Soprano is also recommended, as this component directly determines the amplifier's sonic signature.
