Description
The Consonance Ping is an integrated hi-fi system designed to bring several audio sources together within a single unit. It combines a hi-fi quality CD player, an FM/AM tuner and a transistor stereo amplifier, complemented by a USB input allowing playback of both CDs and music files from a computer.
The amplifier delivers a power output of 100 W and is based on a proprietary technology called Cool Class A, which combines the principles of Class AB and Class A. The aim is to achieve sound linearity comparable to that of a Class A amplifier, without requiring the substantial electrical current usually associated with this technology. The USB port also incorporates an audio clock recovery system, with analogue management via SpAct designed to limit clock jitter during digital playback.

What to check before buying used
The CD tray deserves priority checking: verify ejection, closing and the absence of noise from a tired optical drive before confirming that a disc plays from start to finish. Also test the FM/AM tuner across several stations to rule out any reception issues, and operate each potentiometer (volume, balance) to check for crackling indicating worn tracks. Finally, checking the USB input with an audio file ensures that SpAct clock recovery works without dropouts.
