Description
The T+A CM Active is an active bookshelf speaker, designed to integrate directly with a Caruso system and turn it into a complete Hifi setup. Unlike a passive speaker, it features its own amplification, which simplifies installation and frees the user from having to choose a separate power amplifier.
Each speaker houses two 70 Watt amplifiers, separately powered thanks to an active crossover. This bi-amplified architecture separates signal processing upstream of each power stage, rather than splitting it after a single amplification stage: each driver thus receives a signal that is processed and amplified in a dedicated manner, which favours a dynamic rendering and an assertive sound output.
Although it is particularly suited to the Caruso system, the CM Active remains compatible with other preamplifiers, which allows a degree of freedom in building or expanding an existing setup.
This model is aimed at a user wishing to simplify their listening system without giving up a refined sound reproduction, particularly as part of a T+A Caruso setup or a configuration paired with an external preamplifier.
What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the driver surrounds on each speaker, which can stiffen or crack over time and affect bass reproduction. An inspection of the cabinet is also recommended, particularly the corners and veneer, which are prone to handling damage. Finally, test both built-in amplifiers across the full volume range to rule out any hum, cutting out or imbalance between channels, which would indicate ageing of the internal electronic components.
