Description

The Digital Triax is a digital coaxial cable from T+A, designed with a double coaxial architecture combining a central conductor and two external braided shields. It can be used for digital links as well as aerial connections, and can also serve as an audio interconnect.

Its construction is based on a central conductor made up of 39 strands of copper and copper/silver, surrounded by an expanded PUR insulator. Next comes an inner conductor formed of 128 braided strands of copper and copper/silver, insulated with a PE sheath. The outer braided shield brings together 144 strands of copper and copper/silver, all protected by a high-density PVC jacket. The cable has an outer diameter of 8 mm.

This double shielding structure aims to provide high protection against external electromagnetic fields while limiting the cable's own radiation. The 75 ohm impedance ensures proper matching for digital and aerial connections, an important point since a poor impedance match can generate interference and jitter. The very low capacitance, just 60 pF, also makes it possible to consider longer cable runs without noticeable degradation.

This cable is aimed at audio and video installations where the digital link plays a role in playback quality, whether between a player and a converter, or for an aerial connection. It suits users wishing to take care of their entire system, including elements often overlooked such as digital link cables.

What to check before buying used

Check the condition of the RCA or BNC connectors at both ends: an oxidised pin, play in the shielding or a solder joint weakened by repeated handling can introduce micro-dropouts or digital noise. Also inspect the PVC jacket along its entire length, particularly at bend points near the end connectors, where a braided shield can crack or loosen without this being visible from the outside. A cable that has been tightly coiled or stored bent for a long time deserves a careful continuity check before use.
