Description
The P 10.2 is a valve preamplifier designed by T+A for high-end two-channel stereo hi-fi systems. It occupies a central place in an analogue amplification chain, between the sources and the power stage, with the role of adjusting the signal level while preserving its sound quality.
Its distinctive feature lies in its dual-mono symmetrical architecture, visible from the outside of the unit thanks to the layout of the valves. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the valves in the P 10.2 and their matching between the two channels, as a mismatched or worn set will unbalance the dual-mono symmetry sought by T+A. Listen carefully to the volume and balance potentiometers for crackling, often linked to contact oxidation on an older unit. A check of the power supply capacitors is also recommended, as these components can degrade over time even without any immediate audible sign.
