Description
The Speaker Eight is a speaker cable designed by T+A for high-end hi-fi systems. It is aimed in particular at configurations where the speakers demand significant current at high power, a situation in which the quality of the cable directly influences the control and precision of the sound.
Its construction is based on eight groups of stranded wires, each individually insulated, for a total cross-section of 2 x 5 mm². This generous cross-section significantly lowers the cable's electrical resistance, which improves the overall damping factor of the link between amplifier and speakers: the bass frequencies gain in control and clarity. The strands themselves combine oxygen-free copper (OFC) with silver plating, a choice that increases the usable conduction surface and favours the reproduction of high frequencies.
Despite this large cross-section, the arrangement of the strands keeps capacitance under control and inductance very low, two electrical parameters which, if poorly managed, can degrade the frequency response of a power cable. External shielding completes the design, protecting the signal from electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference.
This cable is intended for demanding hi-fi systems, particularly when the amplifier must drive difficult speakers with low impedance or high current demand. It suits installations where cable length and connection quality have an audible impact, typically in high-end stereo listening.
What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the connectors (spades or banana plugs) at both ends: oxidation, loose crimping or bare wires weaken the contact and degrade the sound reproduction. Also inspect the sheath and shielding along the entire length for cracks, sharp bends or crush marks, which are sources of micro-cuts. A continuity test on each strand can confirm the absence of an internal break before purchase.
