Description
The HTA-1000 from TAGA Harmony is a hybrid integrated amplifier that combines two technologies in a single unit: a vacuum tube preamplification section and a transistor power stage. This architecture allows the tonal character typical of valves to be combined with the power handling and dynamics of transistors, two qualities that are difficult to bring together in an all-valve amplifier.
The preamplification section relies on three PSVANE tubes: two ECC82 and one ECC83, recognised for their build quality in the audiophile segment. The power stage delivers 2 x 105 watts into 8 ohms and 2 x 144 watts into 4 ohms, allowing it to drive moderately demanding speakers. The frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 35 kHz, total harmonic distortion is stated at 0.1%, and the signal-to-noise ratio reaches 82 dB at high level. The unit also incorporates a Cirrus Logic CS4344 digital-to-analogue converter, operating at 24-bit/192 kHz, with optical and coaxial digital inputs, two analogue RCA inputs and an MM phono input. A headphone output in 6.35 mm jack format completes the unit, with an output power of 400 mW into 300 ohms and a compatible impedance range of 32 to 300 ohms.
This type of amplifier is aimed at a user wanting versatile electronics, capable of accepting both a digital source and a turntable fitted with an MM cartridge, without needing to add a separate phono preamplifier. The presence of a dedicated headphone output also makes it a sound choice for demanding headphone listening, alongside listening on speakers.

What to check before buying used
The PSVANE tubes in the preamplification section wear with listening hours: a duller sound, increased hiss or a microphonic effect when tapping the chassis indicate that replacement will soon be needed. Also check the operation of the Cirrus Logic DAC on the optical and coaxial inputs, as well as the cleanliness of the potentiometers and selectors, which are often prone to crackling after several years of use.
