Description
The TAGA Harmony HTA-700 V.3 is a midi-format integrated amplifier with a hybrid design. This architecture combines valve stages and transistor components, with the aim of delivering a sound colour close to valve amplification while retaining the stability of a solid-state amplifier.
The unit incorporates a high-resolution USB input, compatible with 24-bit / 192 kHz, allowing it to be connected directly to a computer to play digital audio files without an external converter. A pre-amp output with variable volume level sends the signal from the input sources to an external power amplifier, a subwoofer or active speakers, thereby offering scope for system expansion. A headphone output is also provided for individual listening. The power cable uses a removable IEC connector, which allows it to be replaced with a higher-quality mains cable.
This model is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts who want a hybrid amplifier as the heart of their system, with the option of pairing it with a computer as a digital source, a subwoofer or an additional power amplifier via the pre-out, or using it for headphone listening.
What to check before buying used
On this hybrid architecture, the valves in the preamplifier stage deserve priority checking: microphonics, hum or premature wear are signs that a replacement may be needed. Also check the smoothness of rotation of the volume potentiometer, which is often prone to crackling over time, as well as the condition of the removable IEC mains connector. Testing the USB input and headphone output allows you to verify that these circuits have not been affected.
