Description
The HTA-800 from TAGA Harmony is a hybrid integrated amplifier, combining within a single chassis a vacuum tube preamplifier section and a transistor power stage. It delivers 2 x 50 W into 8 ohms and features a Cirrus Logic CS4344 24-bit / 192 kHz digital-to-analogue converter, allowing it to accept a digital source directly in addition to the standard analogue inputs.
The preamp section relies on two 6N3 tubes, while the output stage uses Toshiba-branded transistors, powered by a 200 W toroidal transformer. This combination aims to pair the sound texture characteristic of tubes with the power handling and dynamics generally associated with transistors. The unit has an input impedance of 47 kOhms / 120 pF, a gain of 40 dB, and accepts an input voltage of 5 mV at 1 kHz, with harmonic distortion below 0.5% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72 dB.
A headphone output is built in, with an impedance of 16 ohms, an output power of 150 mW, a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (± 0.5 dB), harmonic distortion of 0.5% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 75 dB. An RCA pre-out is also available, allowing the unit to be connected to an external power amplifier or an active subwoofer. An aluminium remote control is supplied with the unit.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the 6N3 tubes, wear items that may lose linearity or generate background noise over time; replacement is possible but should be anticipated. It is also useful to test the headphone output and the RCA pre-out, check that the supplied aluminium remote control works properly, and confirm the absence of crackling on the volume and source selection potentiometers, a common issue on amplifiers that have seen little use in recent years.
