Description
The TWA-10B is a network streaming module designed to add wireless streaming functions to an existing audio system. It allows digital music content to be played from a smartphone, tablet, computer or network storage space, as well as from online streaming services and Internet radio stations.
Audio decoding relies on an ESS SABRE ES9023 converter, capable of processing streams of up to 192 kHz/24-bit over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, compared with 44.1 kHz/16-bit over Bluetooth. This difference in resolution depending on the connection mode allows a choice between the convenience of wireless Bluetooth and the superior quality of a Wi-Fi or wired connection for listening to high-resolution files. The unit supports FLAC, WAV, ALAC, APE and MP3 formats, as well as Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Deezer, Napster and Qobuz services, in addition to iHeartRadio and TuneIN radio. A multiroom function also allows playback to be synchronised across several zones.
On the connectivity side, the TWA-10B offers an optical digital output, a coaxial digital output, an analogue RCA output and an RJ45 Ethernet port, allowing a choice of connection depending on the inputs available on the amplifier or existing system.
This compact format, measuring 2.4 x 12.9 x 9.4 cm and weighing 0.45 kg, is aimed at those who wish to modernise a classic hi-fi system without changing amplifier, by adding access to streaming, Internet radio and multiroom playback.

What to check before buying used
With this type of network module, attention should mainly focus on wireless connectivity: check that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth pair correctly and maintain their pairing, as these are the elements most used and most likely to deteriorate with use. Testing the optical, coaxial and RCA outputs ensures that none has been damaged by repeated connections. It is also worth checking that access to streaming services and Internet radio still works, as these platforms may change independently of the hardware.
