Description
The Tangent Tuner III is a compact hi-fi radio tuner designed to receive FM, DAB, DAB+ as well as internet radio stations accessible via a network connection. It integrates as a dedicated source within an existing hi-fi system, alongside an amplifier or an amplified set.
Reception relies on a built-in Skytune tuner module, capable of switching between FM and DAB/DAB+ bands and accessing thousands of streaming stations via WiFi or Ethernet. An aerial with cable and F connector is supplied for over-the-air reception. Signal processing is handled by a 16-bit / 48 kHz stereo DAC, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio above 92 dBA, ensuring a barely perceptible background noise on quiet passages.
Connectivity is kept to the essentials: a stereo RCA analogue output for direct connection to an amplifier, and an optical Toslink digital output for transmitting the signal to an external DAC or a DAC-amplifier. This choice of outputs allows the tuner to be adapted to different types of installations, depending on whether one wishes to use the internal converter or that of another device in the system.
This tuner is aimed at radio enthusiasts who wish to keep a dedicated source within their hi-fi setup, rather than relying on a music streaming service or a media box. What to check before buying used
The Skytune module should quickly lock onto FM and DAB/DAB+ without dropouts or background noise once the supplied aerial is connected: a scan that struggles to fix stations often points to a reception issue. Also check the network connection (WiFi or Ethernet) for access to internet radio, as well as the stability of the optical Toslink output if the unit is to drive an external DAC. The band selection and station memory controls should respond smoothly.
